Blue Mesa Reservoir
96 miles of shoreline around the Blue Mesa Resevoir located south of Crested Butte, Colorado. The Blue Mesa Dam, the first of three dams along the Gunnison River and the largest body of water in Colorado. The Blue Mesa Dam was built in 1965 and has a great variety of trout, plus the largest Kokanee Salmon fishery in the United States.
Black Canyon National Park
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison's unique and spectacular landscape was formed slowly by the action of water and rock scouring down through hard Proterozoic crystalline rock. No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and startling depths offered by the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
Gunnison National Forest
Consists of more than 1.7 million acres of public land and more than 100,000 acres of private land. Located near the Gunnison-Crested Butte, Colorado. Numerous campgrounds to accommodate campers, tents and small trailers abound the area. Each campground specifies the length of stay allowed and some charge user fees.
Gunnison Colorado Whitewater Park
Located on the west side of Gunnison, Colorado. Built for recreational kayaking, rafting and canoeing, the Whitewater Park is also a popular spot for rafters and anglers who want to float on the Gunnison River.
